Fun fun fun! It's time for the Y Flyer National Championships at the Atlanta Yacht Club (AYC) on Lake Alatoona. If you're not familiar with a Y Flyer, it's an 18 foot one design scow, fun to sail and fun to race. There are 44 boats here to compete.
But before you can sail, you have to get the boat measured and weighed and the sails measured and stamped. One design racing means all the boats are identical, so the first boat over the finish line wins. No PHRF time handicaps for us!
Here's Y2802, our boat, weighing in.... this is always a stressful time because the boats have to weigh a minimum of 500 pounds. It's an advantage to be as light as possible, but not underweight because then you have to add lead - a big headache.

Whew! It originally read 501.5 ... about as close as we can get!
In the meantime, we enjoyed playing with grandson Rowan who lives close to AYC & just hanging out in our AYC "cabin" for the week -- AYC is one of the best places to race because for a very small fee, you get to stay on the club grounds, borrowing very nice someone's beautiful lake "cabin" and view -- here's the view as I sit here playing on the IPad this morning! It just finished pouring rain and the sun popped out. Looks like a great day for a practice sail before the "real" racing begins tomorrow (W
