Mystic, CT ... Wooden Boats Galore and the Irons & Grinnell Shipyard!

Not sure I've ever seen so many wooden boats of all types in one place.  Mystic, CT has a rich shipbuilding history and now they're restoring some amazing wooden whaling ships. There was even a shipbuilder named "Irons & Grinnell Shipyard" in the early 1850's.  We're definitely going to have to do a bit of research on this topic!  These are fishing vessels at the Mystic Seaport, which was definitely worth a visit.

As my surname is Irons I am compiling the genealogy of my family line.and have been also searching for more info on the shipbuilding operation/industry that took place there. Any information that you can or are willing to share will certainly be appreciated and shared with others.
Thank you veery much. Kenneth Irons

My great grandmother was Lizzie Irons daughter of Alexander Irons who was the son of Resolved Irons. Resolved worked with his uncle, Dexter Irons, who I understand started the Irons boat building company company in Stonington.

I have additional genealogical information on this line.

Thanks,
DonEllis

Don Im not sure how you and I could connect through this, but the Lizzie Irons you are describing sounds like my great great grandmother who was born in Rehobeth Massachusetts in 1878 and spent her adult life in Malden MA. Would Henry Myers have been your grandfather?

If you're curious what kind of DSLR,  I have an entry level Canon Rebel XSi.
