This amazed me. You can't see it very well, but there a tiny light at the center bottom of this photo -- almost like a electric candle we'd put in a window. And the Fresnel lens in the Tybee Island Lighthouse (Savannah Georgia) magnifies it so that this lighthouse is easily seen 25 miles out to sea. Or so the literature claims - we haven't seen this one ourselves while out to sea.... yet. :) What a beautiful sight. I am fascinated with Fresnel lenses, invented and first used in a lighthouse in 1823.... it's a LONG time that this technology has survived and is still the best. Amazing in this world of computers that only last 4-5 years....

The Saint Simon Lighthouse ... keeping those of us floating around on the deep blue sea safe! I love lighthouses!
T Minus 19 days and counting ... Hopefully by mid-March we'll be exploring the Exumas (southern Bahamas) and our little dinghy will see more of these types of days!
We had a friend stop by to go sailing today ... he wanted to know if we called the local Chamber of Commerce ... dolphins interacted with the boat several times during our two hours sail. We also saw manatees, white pelicans, kamikaze pelicans as well as many other birds. A beautiful day sailing! And a great visit with a great friend!
So we're sitting around chatting with good friends, Barger & Betty, at their "FL winter snowbird retreat" when this wood stork lands 20 feet away and proceeds to walk right up to the patio. The US Fish & Wildlife Service is still classifying these guys as Endangered - click here, but apparently no one told this guy! http://ecos.fws.gov/speciesProfile/profile/speciesProfile.action?spcode=B06O
Kayaking to Manatee Lagoon ... we were met with the resident gator and decided the better part of valor was to leave the manatees to fend for themselves with the gator! He was a good sized alligator too!
Walking across Cayo Costa to the beach, we saw two Osprey's and their nest. No baby ospreys though. :(
Until the wind died .... oh well. Anchored out and loving the solitude. Internet connection horrid, but that's OK too! :) P.S. HAPPY BIRTHDAY RON! And it's going to be 80 degrees today...
