A Perfect "Never Want the Sail to End" Day!

Some days turn out totally different than expected.  We expected big waves from the SE & windy windy windy to sail to Key West today.  But we got a WONDERFUL sail, double reef, a bit rolly but just one of those perfect sails that makes you totally relax and wish you could just keep on sailing.

On the way out of Newfound Harbor we passed Little Palm Island again ... and saw the hammock on a sandspit just waiting for someone to enjoy the sunset tonight.  Although it was tempting, the view from our cockpit is usually pretty good, so we kept sailing.   :)

Suddenly out of nowhere, we were buzzed by a couple of fighter jets out of the Naval Air Station/Key West.  And then by a Navy helicopter.  Bzzzzz ... zoom!   The photo is of the helo, the fighters were too fast and too high for photos.

Sailing in the Key West channel, you never know what you might see.  Today we were treated to the tall ships returning - but we were spared the pirate ship cannon blast.  I remember the first time we sailed into Key West, that pirate ship cannon blast startled us enough to almost jump out of the cockpit!   So much activity, we never know where to look -- tough when you're concentrating on 2 knots of current against you, trying to get behind the bight out of the 20 knots of wind to drop the sails.

And our first sunset in Key West!  We plan to be here long enough to wait out the small craft advisory windy days - maybe until Thursday to give it a day to settle - and then sail to Boca Grande and ultimately the Dry Tortugas.  We're SO close, I'm really really hoping we get good weather to spent more than a day or so ...
