So today wasn't the most exciting day ... but we both accomplished what we had on our To Do List for the day, so it's a success! I added a third coat of white paint to the solar panels. My other project was to sand the sail locker trim, brighten and start to varnish. Too bad I didn't take a photo of what it looked like this evening. But the project is about 9 coats of varnish away from being done....
See how bad it was chipping? Definitely not up to the glass like finish on the rest of the exterior teak these days.... My trusty mouse sander was glad to be back in action!
David's major project for the day was the prop. Note the blue chair in the background? The MaxProp isn't quite a mirror shine yet, but David had it there by lunchtime - Ron, our neighbor boat, complained that the reflection was blinding him.
Then David discovered not one but TWO itty bitty frogs availed themselves of the nearby blue chair to watch his propeller activities! They must have been having a boring day themselves!
Everyone's always looking for "bottom paint" for propellers - something to keep the barnacles from growing. The prop sure was pretty all polished up... but when it splashes, it will soon look like this again...
So we're trying a new Pettit Zinc Coat Barnacle Barrier paint. It's getting good reviews and I'll do a full how to article complete with PYI/MaxProp recommendations on CommuterCruiser.com in the near future. BUT....
Look how dull and boring our beautiful shiny brass propeller turned out.... the good news is that after the bottom is done in Pettit ViVid WHITE! The prop will look silver and at least somewhat distinguished ... maybe... Tomorrow's another day, full of the same old stuff while we "patiently" wait for our bottom to dry (heehee)!
